At the core of Infuse It is our revolutionary water-based creation process. Our method produces a Cyclodextrin/Cannabinoid inclusion complex that is a truly water-soluble powder. When mixed with water, or the liquid of your choice the complex forms a true solution wherein the solvent and solute consist of only one phase.  The solution will remain homogeneous and will not separate over any period of time.  The solution is even impervious to standard filtration and centrifugation. A cyclodextrin complex solution will transmit light and look transparent. The Cyclodextrin complex is molecular and less than 1 nm in all directions. Truly water soluble at-home in any beverage - coffee, tea, and more.

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR PROCESS

  • Forms a clear and transparent beverage with no turbidity or

  • cloudiness.

  • Individual molecules of CBDA are solubilized.

  • Not a nano or other emulsion, colloid, or dispersion.

  • Exhibits enhanced bioavailability.

  • Shelf life of years

  • The only solvent used for the entire process is water

  • Available as thermally stable CBDA

  • The cyclodextrin is a natural product and GRAS.

THE INCLUSION COMPLEX

The inclusion complex a molecular compound in which another compound is spatially enclosed. In this example, the guest molecule is a cyclic sugar (cyclodextrin) that is hydrophilic on the exterior. The center of the cyclodextrin molecule forms a lipophilic cavity into which the hydrophobic CBDA molecules is inserted forming a non-covalent bond. When added to a drink, the solubility characteristics of the inclusion complex are primarily dictated by the exterior of the molecule which is hydrophilic (water loving).

The figure below graphically illustrates the inclusion complex phenomenon:

INTERACTION WITH WATER-BASED SOLUTIONS

How does the complex interact with water, coffee or tea? Because inclusion complexes utilize non-covalent binding, they exist in equilibrium with the surrounding solvent (water). CBDA which has some intrinsic water solubility (ca. 1 mg/ml @ pH=7) shifts CBDA into solution to achieve equilibrium.

Thermal stability and shelf life of CBDA is dramatically enhanced by cyclodextrin inclusion.  Using the water-soluble inclusion complex even in cooking or baking cakes, allows for infusion with little decarboxylation. We have demonstrated that at 100C decarboxylation is only a few percent in the first hour and never exceeds 15% over 24 hours.

Dissolution rate and solubility exemplify the advantages of cyclodextrin inclusion complexes. Inclusion complexes are typically used to enhance solubility of poorly soluble compounds. An added benefit, rapid dissolution.

Water-based solutions such as coffee, tea, or drinking water provide an ideal home for the mixture.

Endocannabinoid System - CBD and CBDA

In the 1990’s, scientists discovered endocannabinoids, natural cannabis-like molecules, being produced by the human body. Scientists soon began to realize cannabis exerted its effects, in part, by mimicking our endocannabinoids. The main function of the endocannabinoid system is in maintaining bodily homeostasis

In addition to the well-known, and largely scientifically proven, benefits of CBD, CBDA (cannabidiolic acid), the precursor of CBD, is thought to have the following benefits based upon anecdotal evidence.

  • Anti-inflammatory - Arthritis relief

  • Positive effect on seizures

  • Anti-anxiety and depression

  • Antibiotic

  • Antibacterial

  • Anti-proliferative

  • Reduces nausea and vomiting

  • Anti-tumor

  • Etc.

Bioavailability studies have been done on CBD and CBDA where CBDA is about 19 times more available than CBD (Jones et al., published in the 24th Annual Symposium of the International Cannabinoid Research Society 2014).
